Class 50 Alliance
The Class 50 Alliance is a UK member-supported group that owns/caretakes six preserved BR Class 50 diesel locomotives and funds their restoration and operation.
The Class 50 Alliance, working alongside The Fifty Fund, is a long-established preservation organisation dedicated to owning, maintaining and operating six preserved English Electric Class 50 locomotives for heritage and main line use. Their fleet includes 50007 Hercules, 50031 Hood, 50033 Glorious, 50035 Ark Royal, 50044 Exeter and 50049 Defiance, with volunteers and supporters helping keep these iconic Type 4 diesels active, reliable and seen by the public. The group also hires locomotives for railtours, contract work and heritage railway events, helping to fund ongoing maintenance and restoration. Since 1989, the Alliance and Fifty Fund have played a leading role in Class 50 preservation, with a strong track record of returning locomotives to passenger and main line service. This video page showcases the sights and sounds of the locomotives in their care—departures, arrivals, railtours and gala appearances—celebrating the engineering, history and atmosphere that make the Class 50s so popular with enthusiasts.
The playlist features a range of preserved and operational diesel locomotives, with a particular focus on the Class 50s, which are maintained by the Class 50 Alliance. These include units such as 50007 *Hercules*, 50031 *Hood*, 50033 *Glorious*, 50035 *Ark Royal*, 50044 *Exeter*, and 50049 *Defiance*. The footage showcases these locomotives in various settings, including heritage railway events, railtours, and mainline operations. Several videos highlight the Class 50s at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway during diesel galas, as well as their appearances on other lines such as the Severn Valley Railway and West Somerset Railway.
In addition to the Class 50s, the playlist includes footage of a wide variety of other locomotives, including Classes 31, 37, 47, 55, and others. These are often seen operating on heritage railways or during special events such as galas and open days. The videos capture these machines in action across locations like Keighley, Bridgnorth, Exeter, and Doncaster, with some footage showing them working alongside other preserved stock or participating in railtours. While the focus is primarily on the Class 50s, the collection also reflects the broader heritage diesel scene in the UK.
