Great Western Railway (GWR) is a British train operating company owned by FirstGroup. It runs passenger rail services from London Paddington across the Greater Western network, including long-distance intercity routes to Bristol, South Wales, the West Country and Penzance, as well as commuter and regional services in the Thames Valley, West of England and South Wales. GWR also operates the Night Riviera sleeper between London and Penzance and serves Heathrow via the Heathrow Express operation. The company began running services on 4 February 1996 as Great Western Trains, was later branded First Great Western, and adopted the Great Western Railway name in September 2015. It is the modern successor to the historic Great Western Railway name and brand.
